Question · Dictation in your apps
Can you dictate in Notion?
Not with Notion's own voice feature for pages. Notion added voice input on desktop in April 2026, and its release describes it as a way to dictate prompts to Notion AI. To dictate into a Notion page, use your operating system's dictation or a system-wide dictation app, and test it in a short paragraph first.

Notion's own voice input is for prompts to Notion AI, not for the text of your pages. Notion announced it for desktop on April 6, 2026 1, and its release describes dictating a longer prompt or talking instead of typing, so you can get things done with the Agent 2. To write page text by voice, use the dictation that comes with your computer, or a system-wide dictation app. This page explains the difference and what to do when dictation seems not to work. Our guide to voice to text in Teams, Slack and Notion covers all three apps.
Notion's voice input is for talking to Notion AI
The release is about the Agent and the AI features. It says voice input "makes it easier to get things done with your Agent" 2. That is a prompt you speak to Notion AI, which then answers or edits a page for you.
If you open Notion and speak, expecting your words to appear as text in a paragraph, the desktop voice input is not designed for that. It may help you write a prompt, but the release does not describe it as typing into a block.
Notion's release does not say it types into page text
The official release does not say whether voice input can type into page text. Its wording is about prompts, so we do not count it as dictation for your pages. Third-party vendors describe workarounds for page text, and some say that Notion has no dictation of its own. Those pages are marketing material, and we did not verify them, so treat them as a guide to test rather than a fact.
This is why the answer is not a plain yes. The feature exists, but its documented job is AI prompts.
Meeting notes is a different paid feature
Notion's AI Meeting Notes records a meeting and writes a summary. It is not dictation. Notion says it needs a Business or Enterprise plan 3 and version 4.7.0 or higher of the desktop app 4. Use meeting notes when you need a summary of a call. Use the operating system's dictation when you are writing text yourself.
On Windows, Win+H types into a Notion page
- Click in the paragraph or block where you want the text.
- Press Windows key + H on a hardware keyboard 5.
- Speak, then say Stop listening to finish.
Windows voice typing needs a working microphone, an internet connection and the cursor in a text box 6. We have not tested each Notion block type on each version of Windows, so check the block you need before you rely on it.
On a Mac, Dictation types into a Notion page
Apple says that with Dictation on a Mac, you can speak to enter text anywhere you can type it 7. Click into the page, then use the Dictation shortcut you chose. Some third-party guides report that Dictation is slow or unreliable in Notion's text blocks. We did not verify that, so test it in a block you use often. Our guide to Dictation on a Mac has the setup steps.
When Notion dictation does nothing, check these three things
- Which voice feature you used. If you spoke into the Notion AI prompt box, the words went to the AI, not to the page. Click into the page block itself and use the operating system route.
- The microphone and input level. Windows voice typing does nothing without a working microphone. Microsoft asks you to select the microphone you want in Settings, under System, Sound, Input 8.
- The internet connection. Voice typing on Windows needs one 6. If it is down, nothing types, even when the microphone works.
If the built-in route still fails, test the same paragraph in another app. That tells you whether the fault is Notion or your computer's dictation setup.
Phones use the keyboard microphone
On a phone, the keyboard's microphone is the usual route to text in a Notion block. The guides we checked say Notion adds no separate button for page text, but we did not verify that. We did not test each Notion block on each phone, so check the microphone key the first time you open a page.
When the built-in tools are not enough
If you dictate pages every day, a system-wide dictation app may suit you better. Yap, which we make, is an on-device dictation app for Mac and Windows. The Windows page and the Mac page describe it. Our comparison of dictation software covers the alternatives.
What to do
- Decide what you need: a prompt for Notion AI, a summary of a meeting, or text in a page.
- For text in a page on Windows, click into the block and press Windows key + H.
- For text in a page on a Mac, click into the block and press your Dictation shortcut.
- Test in a short paragraph first, and check the punctuation and names before you move on.
- If it still fails, check the microphone, the input level and the internet connection.
