Question · Dictation in your apps
Is Notion meeting transcription free?
No, not on an ongoing basis. Notion's AI Meeting Notes, which transcribes meetings, requires a Business or Enterprise plan, with an exception for eligible mobile subscriptions. Notion's pricing table marks the feature as a limited trial, but the text we read does not say which plans that covers. We found no free allowance on Notion's help or pricing pages as of 2026-10-17.

No, not on an ongoing basis. Notion's AI Meeting Notes, which transcribes a meeting and writes a summary, needs a Business or Enterprise plan, with an exception for eligible mobile subscriptions 1. Notion's pricing table marks the feature as a limited trial, but the plain text we read does not show which plans that covers. We found no free allowance on Notion's help or pricing pages as of 2026-10-17. If you need transcripts every week, budget for a paid plan or use a free tool with its own limits.
This answer covers Notion's built-in meeting feature. It does not cover dictating text into a Notion page, which is a different job. For that, see our guide to voice to text in Teams, Slack and Notion, part of our overview of dictation in your apps.
The feature belongs to Notion's Business and Enterprise plans
Notion's help page says that to use AI Meeting Notes, you must be on its Business or Enterprise plan 1. Eligible mobile subscriptions are the exception, so a mobile subscription may qualify even if your workspace plan does not. The AI Meeting Notes help page sets out these rules.
Notion's pricing page describes the feature as one that "Automatically transcribes your meetings, along with a helpful summary" 2. Its table shows "Limited Trial" against meeting notes, twice, in the text the page renders. Plain text does not show which plan each cell belongs to, so read the table on the live page before you decide.
The pricing table mentions a trial, but not its terms
A limited trial is not an allowance you can keep using. The Notion pages we read do not state how long a trial lasts or how many meetings it covers, so do not plan around a figure from a blog.
If a trial is open to you, use it once. Record a real meeting during it, then decide whether the full feature is worth a paid plan for you or your team.
Even on a paid plan, two limits apply
The feature has limits even when you have it. Notion says AI Meeting Notes has a daily usage limit of 10 hours per user 3. A long day of recorded meetings can reach that limit, and the limit is per person, not shared across a team.
Notion also says at least one minute of recorded audio is required to generate a summary 4. That minimum applies to the summary, so a very short call may give you little to read. Check the result on a short test call before you rely on it.
Two setup rules decide whether it works at all
The desktop app must be on version 4.7.0 or higher to use AI Meeting Notes 5. An older app does not meet that requirement, so update it first.
Notion says the browser version is best suited for in-person conversations, because it can only pick up audio from your microphone 6. A video call recorded in the browser may miss the other people. If a transcript is missing them, check which version you are using before you assume the feature is broken.
Notion's voice input is for prompts, not meeting transcripts
Notion also has voice input for Notion AI. Its April 2026 release describes it as a way to dictate longer prompts or talk to the Notion Agent instead of typing 7. That is a way to talk to Notion's assistant. It does not produce a transcript of a meeting, so it is not a free substitute for meeting transcription.
To tell the two jobs apart, read dictation vs transcription. Dictation puts your words into a text box, and transcription records what other people say.
What to do if you need a transcript
- Check the meeting notes row in Notion's pricing table, reading the live page, to see which plans include the feature.
- If Notion offers you a trial, use it once, on a real meeting, and note whether the transcript and summary were useful.
- If you are on Business or Enterprise, update the desktop app to version 4.7.0 or higher, and record video calls on desktop rather than in the browser.
- Keep the daily limit of 10 hours per person in mind for busy days, and plan a second route for any day that goes beyond it.
- If you do not want to pay for Notion's feature, look at free meeting transcription apps, or at meeting transcription without a bot, which lists the trade-offs of tools that do not join the call.
It depends on your plan and your meetings
The answer changes with three things. The first is your plan: Notion's help page requires a Business or Enterprise workspace, and the trial terms are not in the text we read. The second is your subscription type: an eligible mobile subscription may include it even when the workspace does not. The third is the length of your meetings: a team with long calls will meet the daily limit sooner than a team with short check-ins.
Each of these can change, because Notion sets its own plan rules and limits. The sources above are dated 2026-10-17, so check the live pages before you buy or depend on the feature.
