Free browser extension
Voice typing for any text box on the web.
Click into a text field, press Alt+Shift+Y and talk. Yap Voice Typing types your words where the cursor is, in email, search, chat, notes and documents. Speech is recognized in your browser, so your voice is never uploaded.

Talk, it types
Works in inputs, text areas and rich editors, which see the words as if you had typed them. Capitals and punctuation are added, and um and uh removed. It stops by itself after a short pause; Esc cancels.
Nothing uploaded
Whisper runs inside your browser. The extension reads a page only when you press the shortcut or click its icon, only in that tab, and the microphone is on only while you dictate.
Free, and works offline
No account and no limits beyond 2 minutes per recording. The model (about 80 MB) downloads once, then dictation works without a connection.
Questions.
- Is Yap Voice Typing free?
- Yes. Yap Voice Typing is free, with no account and no limit on how many recordings you make (up to 2 minutes each).
- Is my voice uploaded?
- No. The extension runs OpenAI's Whisper speech model inside your browser. The model downloads once (about 80 MB) and is kept by your browser; your recordings never leave your computer, and there is no server, account or analytics.
- Which languages does it understand?
- English, or "Any language": the multilingual model detects which of 99 languages you speak, per recording.
- Does it work outside the browser?
- No, it types into text boxes on web pages. To dictate into every app on your computer, including Word, Slack, terminals and coding agents, use the Yap app for Mac and Windows.
