Gboard is the most downloaded voice typing app on Android. Google Play shows it at 10,000,000,000 downloads or more 1. The nearest dedicated voice keyboard is Microsoft SwiftKey, at 1,000,000,000 downloads or more 2. Everything built purely for dictation sits far lower: Wispr Flow shows 1,000,000 downloads or more 3.
We read the public US Google Play page of every Android app in our market registry. The dataset holds 52 4 listings, as shown on October 19, 2026. Google Play publishes downloads only as bands ("at least this many"), so each number below is a floor, not an exact count.
Gboard is far ahead of every other voice keyboard
Gboard is Google's default keyboard on many Android phones, and it includes voice typing. Its band is the highest in the data, and its ratings count runs to millions. Google Assistant is the only other app above one billion, at 5,000,000,000 downloads or more 5, but it is a voice assistant, not a typing tool.
The chart ranks the most downloaded apps in the dataset.
Below the leaders, the voice keyboards drop quickly. FUTO Voice Input, Speakly, Dictate Keyboard, Quill Flow and Offline Voice Input all sit in the tens of thousands of downloads or below. This table lists the voice keyboards with their bands and ratings.
| App | Band shown | Stars | Ratings | Downloads (lower bound of the band) (downloads) | Source |

The largest bands belong to assistants and built-in tools
Most of the apps at the top are not dictation products in the narrow sense. Gemini, ChatGPT voice mode, Android Voice Access and Live Transcribe all share the same band, at 1,000,000,000 downloads or more each 11. Voice assistants are the biggest group in that tier, and you can talk to them, but they are built to answer questions and run tasks. A voice assistant turns speech into a command or a reply, not necessarily into clean text in another app.
Here is how the assistants compare.
| App | Band shown | Stars | Ratings | Downloads (lower bound of the band) (downloads) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Assistant | 5B+ | 3.77 | 1365031 | 5,000,000,000 | Calculated 5 |
| ChatGPT voice mode | 1B+ | 4.78 | 65116475 | 1,000,000,000 | Calculated 12 |
| Gemini | 1B+ | 4.54 | 49314636 | 1,000,000,000 | Calculated 11 |
| Amazon Alexa | 100M+ | 4.06 | 5778064 | 100,000,000 | Calculated 13 |

| Claude voice mode | 50M+ | 4.51 | 807919 | 50,000,000 | Calculated 17 |

Claude voice mode, Meta AI, Perplexity, Grok and Amazon Alexa sit one or two bands below the leaders. For example, Claude voice mode shows 50,000,000 downloads or more 17.
Dedicated dictation apps are small on Android, and ratings vary more
Apps made for dictation, such as Wispr Flow, Voice Notebook, Typeless, Superwhisper and Aqua Voice, are in the million-to-thousand range or below. Several began on desktop or iPhone, so a small Android audience is expected. Here is the segment.
| App | Band shown | Stars | Ratings | Downloads (lower bound of the band) (downloads) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Voice Notebook | 1M+ | 4.44 | 21157 | 1,000,000 | Calculated 18 |
| Wispr Flow | 1M+ | 4.57 | 12038 | 1,000,000 | Calculated 3 |
| Typeless | 500K+ | 4.16 | 3002 | 500,000 | Calculated 19 |
| Aqua Voice | 1K+ | 4.4 | 53 | 1,000 | Calculated 20 |
| Dictation Daddy | 1K+ | 3.88 | 17 | 1,000 | Calculated 21 |
| Superwhisper | 1K+ | 3.5 | 37 | 1,000 | Calculated 22 |

| BossAI | 100+ | 100 | Calculated 24 |

Transcription and meeting-notes apps land in the middle. Otter.ai, Speechnotes and Transkriptor each show 5,000,000 downloads or more 25. Their ratings differ a lot, which the table shows.
| App | Band shown | Stars | Ratings | Downloads (lower bound of the band) (downloads) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Live Transcribe | 1B+ | 3.84 | 272588 | 1,000,000,000 | Calculated 26 |
| Speechnotes | 5M+ | 4.01 | 31743 | 5,000,000 | Calculated 27 |
| Transkriptor | 5M+ | 4.1 | 52142 | 5,000,000 | Calculated 28 |
| Notta | 1M+ | 4.18 | 21410 | 1,000,000 | Calculated 29 |
| Rev | 500K+ | 4.16 | 3164 | 500,000 | Calculated 30 |
| Riverside | 500K+ | 4.56 | 7799 | 500,000 | Calculated 31 |

Ratings need care. A high star score from a few dozen ratings tells you little. A score from hundreds of thousands of ratings tells you much more. Gboard and Gemini both carry very large ratings counts, so their scores are stable. Apps with only tens of ratings, such as Superwhisper, Dictation Daddy and Voicy, can swing on a handful of reviews. Some listings in the data show a band but no star rating at all.
What these numbers do and do not measure
The bands are coarse. A band hides everything inside it, so growth shows only when an app crosses into the next band. An app can double its audience and still show the same band.
Downloads count installs, not people who use the app. Several of the top apps may come preinstalled or be installed as part of a phone's setup, and a download of Gboard does not mean the person ever tapped the microphone key. The data also cannot tell you how accurate any app is, how fast it is, or whether it works offline.
Odd rows exist. Recorder (Google Pixel) shows the lowest band, 1 download or more 33, even though it has thousands of ratings. We report what the page shows and cannot explain it from the data alone.
The dataset also leaves out apps that are not on Google Play: iPhone-only apps, and desktop and web apps. A dictation tool that is popular on Mac, Windows or the web can look tiny here.
What this means when you choose how to dictate
If you want voice typing in every text field on an Android phone, start with the keyboard you already have. Gboard is the default choice for most people, and SwiftKey is the large alternative. Both are free to try, and the download numbers show they are the most tested options.
If you need long, clean text, such as emails or documents, consider a dedicated dictation app, but treat its small download band as a reason to read recent reviews and test it on your own voice. If you need a transcript of a meeting or a recording, compare the transcription and meeting-notes apps instead, and weigh the ratings counts, not only the stars. If you want answers rather than typed text, an assistant fits better.
A band tells you how widely an app is installed, not how well it dictates. Use the numbers to build a short list, then try two or three apps with your own voice and vocabulary.
