Question · Dictation on phones and tablets
Is there a Dragon dictation app for iPhone or Android?
No Dragon dictation app for iPhone or Android is on sale that we could confirm. Nuance's Dragon Anywhere app for iOS and Android stopped selling in July 2026, according to a competing vendor, and we found no official notice from Nuance. On a phone, use Apple Dictation or Gboard, and use Dragon on a computer or through a clinical app your organization provides.

No Dragon dictation app for iPhone or Android is on sale that we could confirm. Nuance, the company that makes Dragon, sold a mobile app called Dragon Anywhere, and by one vendor's account it stopped selling on July 1, 2026 1. We found no official notice from Nuance or Apple that confirms it. The useful answer for a phone is to use the dictation already built in, and to reserve Dragon for a computer or for a clinical app that your employer provides.
What Dragon Anywhere was, and why it matters
Dragon Anywhere was the phone version of Nuance's Dragon. Nuance said that Dragon Anywhere Mobile let you create, edit and format documents of any length 2. That was its selling point: long documents on a phone, with Dragon's voice commands. If you used it, you may still see its name in old reviews and in store searches, which is why the status matters.
Two reports say the phone app can no longer be bought
Two sources point the same way, and neither is from Nuance. A competing dictation vendor, Voibe, writes that Dragon Anywhere, Nuance's iOS and Android app, stopped selling on July 1, 2026 1. In a July 2026 forum thread, a user reported that new subscriptions could not be bought in the iOS app, and the thread's title says so directly 3.
Neither report is an official statement. The forum thread is one user's observation, and the vendor article cites no Nuance or Apple page for the July date 1. The same article says that the end-of-life dates for Dragon Professional Anywhere come from Nuance partners, not from a Nuance or Microsoft notice 4. So treat the phone app's status as a strong lead, and confirm it in the App Store and Google Play before you buy anything. If you can still see a Dragon app there, check its date and its seller.
Dragon on a computer is a separate product
Dragon is sold as desktop software and as cloud services for businesses. Dragon Professional Anywhere is described as cloud-hosted speech recognition for the enterprise 5. Nuance's US store menu lists Dragon Professional Anywhere and Dragon Legal Anywhere among its products, while Dragon Home and Dragon Premium are not in the menu 6. Those products are for a computer. They do not put a Dragon keyboard on your phone.
If you dictate long documents on a computer and want Dragon's commands there, check which edition you are being offered and what its end-of-life date is. The question of whether a desktop Dragon is still sold is covered in is Dragon NaturallySpeaking discontinued, and the subscription terms are in is there a Dragon subscription.
Clinical apps can reach Dragon from a phone
There is one case where Dragon does reach a phone. A 2020 tip from a Canadian health system's Epic team says that Epic's Haiku app for smartphones and Canto app for iPads support Nuance Dragon dictation directly into progress notes started in the mobile app 7. That was one health system's setup, so confirm it for yours. If your organization uses Epic, ask its IT or clinical informatics team whether this is available to you.
Outside that setup, a phone dictation question is answered by the built-in tools: Apple Dictation on iPhone, and Gboard on Android. The limits and steps of each are covered in the best free dictation app for iPhone and the best free voice to text app for Android.
If you need Dragon's kind of control, such as long documents with spoken commands, we did not find a phone app that offers it today. Test a free option on your own writing before you assume the gap is closed. For a free alternative to Dragon on a computer, see free alternatives to Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
Yap, which we make, is a dictation app for Mac and Windows, so this page does not rank it. For the platforms we currently support, see our download page.
What to do
- Search the App Store and Google Play for "Dragon" and check the seller, the date of the latest update and whether a subscription can be bought.
- If you are a clinician, ask your employer whether a Dragon dictation feature is provided in your EHR's mobile app.
- If you need dictation on a phone today, start with Apple Dictation or Gboard, and test the one you pick on a 200-word passage of your own writing.
- If you need Dragon's commands on a computer, check the edition's end-of-life date in writing before you renew or buy.
- Keep a copy of your custom words and commands, since you may need to move them if a product changes.
