The newest Dragon language list we could verify is for Dragon Professional Individual version 15. It covers English in several variants, plus Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish. We found no list for Dragon Professional 16 or for a Japanese edition, so confirm the languages for your exact edition with Nuance before you buy.

The only Dragon language list we could verify is for Dragon Professional Individual version 15. It covers English in several variants, plus Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish. We could not confirm a list for the current edition, and we found no Japanese edition. Check the languages for your exact edition with Nuance before you buy, and get the answer in writing if you need a language for work.
The list we could verify is for Dragon version 15, an older edition
Dragonfly, an open-source Python library, publishes a page on spoken language support that gives the languages for Dragon Professional Individual version 15 1. The page also says that other editions are listed in Nuance's knowledgebase, which we could not open. The Nuance product page for Dragon Professional, which we checked on 17 October 2026, describes the product but does not publish a language list. The guide to dictation languages reports the same gap.
Treat this list as a dated starting point, not as a current answer. Language support can change between versions, and it can differ between the Professional, Home and Legal lines.
Japanese is not on any Dragon list we could find
Searches for Dragon and Japanese turn up little, and the Dragon list above does not include Japanese. The same source lists Japanese for Windows Speech Recognition, Microsoft's built-in engine, as of 2016 2. That is a different product from Dragon, so do not read it as Dragon support. If you need Japanese dictation, see the guide to Japanese, Chinese and Korean speech to text and the question on the best speech to text for Japanese.
Edition and platform matter as much as language
Language support depends on the edition you buy, and it also depends on the platform. Nuance said it would stop updates for Dragon Professional Individual for Mac after 22 October 2018 3, so Mac users should not expect current Dragon updates from that line. For the Windows editions, their prices and their features, see our overview of Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
What to do before you buy
- Find the exact edition and version you plan to buy, and its language list, on the vendor's own product or store page.
- Confirm that your language and region are on that list, not only that the product supports "English" in general. English has several variants, and the list is the place to see which ones are included.
- If you need the language for work, ask Nuance to confirm it in writing before you buy.
- Check whether the edition works offline for your language, if you need offline use.
- If the list does not show your language, look at other tools. Which dictation app supports the most languages compares the built-in and cloud options.
For the wider comparison across Apple, Microsoft, Google and Whisper, see the guide to dictation languages, and for the setup steps when you need to change language, see the guide to changing your dictation language.
