Is Dragon NaturallySpeaking still popular?
Dragon NaturallySpeaking is still read, with 39,540 English Wikipedia page views in the 12 months to September 2026, but its monthly readership is about half of its 2015 level. Newer tools such as Whisper, with 54,254 views, now draw more readers.

Dragon is still read, but it is a shrinking niche next to newer tools. The English Wikipedia article "Dragon NaturallySpeaking" had 39,540 page views in the 12 months to September 2026 1. Its monthly count was 4,735 in July 2015 and 2,314 in September 2026. That is a little under half, and September 2026 was lower than the same month a year earlier.
This is a measure of reading, not of sales or use. The sections below say what it can and cannot tell you.
Dragon's readership roughly halved since 2015
The monthly count for the article fell from 4,735 in July 2015 to 2,314 in September 2026. The decline is gradual, not a single drop. The article about its maker, "Nuance Communications", fell further, from 9,344 in July 2015 to 2,422 in September 2026, with 32,408 views in the latest 12 months 2.
The row for Dragon in the dataset:

Other dictation topics fell too, so Dragon is not alone
Older dictation and typing topics have shrunk together. "Dictation machine" went from 2,191 in July 2015 to 1,313 in September 2026, and had 17,091 views over the latest 12 months 3. "Windows Speech Recognition" went from 2,144 to 336. "Medical transcription" went from 14,503 to 471. "Braina" went from 2,835 to 219.
So the pattern is a general move away from reading about older desktop dictation, not a problem unique to one product. It fits a market where speech recognition is built into phones, operating systems and chat assistants.
Newer tools now draw more readers than Dragon
Over the same 12 months, the English Wikipedia article on Whisper, the speech recognition system, had 54,254 views 4, more than Dragon, though it only started in 2023 at 664 monthly views in August 2023. "Siri" had 307,597 5, and "Amazon Alexa" had 191,749 6. "Google Gemini" had 1,093,862 7.
Dragon is not the least read, either. It had more views than "Windows Speech Recognition" and "Dictation machine", and the table and the full dataset show the exact ranking.
What these numbers do and do not measure
Page views count visits, not unique readers, and include people who reached the article by accident. A news event or a search engine change can move them without any change in real interest. Only views by people are counted, and known crawlers and automated agents are excluded.
Reading about Dragon is not using Dragon. Long-time users already know the product and have no reason to look it up on Wikipedia. A product article also draws curious readers who will never buy it. The data covers Wikipedia only and says nothing about licenses, installs or satisfaction. It cannot tell you how well Dragon works.
What it means if you are choosing a tool
Dragon's falling readership does not mean it is a poor tool. It means fewer people are researching it. If you already use Dragon for a professional workflow with custom vocabulary, nothing here is a reason to switch. If you are starting fresh, compare current options on accuracy, speed, privacy and price in our market comparison, and read the guide to Dragon on Mac if that is your platform.
For a simple start, try the built-in dictation on your phone or computer first. If you want on-device dictation for Mac or Windows, Yap, our own app, is one option to compare, and you can see it on the download page. Judge it as you would any tool: test it on your own voice and your own documents.
