- What it measures
- Hugging Face counts a download each time a model's files are fetched (by a person, a server or a test pipeline): a measure of use by developers, not of people.
- How it is measured
- Once a week we read the 200 most downloaded models tagged automatic-speech-recognition from the Hugging Face Hub API, sorted by downloads, plus every model our market registry lists for an open speech model, and record each model's downloads over the last 30 days (the Hub's own rolling count), its likes and its all-time downloads.
- What it does not show
- Automated pipelines that re-download a model on every run inflate counts, and models served from other hosts (GitHub releases, a vendor's CDN, Apple's Core ML packages) are not counted here. The tag is set by each model's author, so a few non-transcription audio models carry it.
