- What it is
- A laboratory study of 20 healthy adults who typed with the right hand at different wrist postures while carpal tunnel pressure was measured. It separates the effect of wrist posture from the effect of typing itself.
- How much weight it carries
- Peer-reviewed, from University of California researchers. Small sample of healthy volunteers in a laboratory, measuring pressure rather than symptoms, so it shows a mechanism and does not show that any posture prevents carpal tunnel syndrome.
Facts taken from this source
- The wrist posture study on carpal tunnel pressure used 20 healthy people in a laboratory.
“Twenty healthy subjects participated in a laboratory study to investigate the effects of typing at different wrist postures on carpal tunnel pressure of the right hand.” (Abstract)
- In a laboratory study, the activity of typing raised pressure in the carpal tunnel compared with holding the same hand posture still.
“The activity of typing independently elevated carpal tunnel pressure” (Abstract)
- In the same laboratory study, wrist deviations in extension or radial deviation were associated with higher carpal tunnel pressure.
“wrist deviations in extension or radial deviation were associated with an increase in pressure” (Abstract)
