Mac computers with Apple silicon
Apple Inc., 2026
Read the originalRead on October 16, 2026
- What it is
- Apple's support article listing which Mac models use Apple silicon chips. It states when Apple began moving Mac computers from Intel processors to Apple silicon.
- How much weight it carries
- Apple's own support article, updated in 2026. It lists models by introduction date, so the list is the reference to check against, and it is more reliable than a model year read from memory.
Facts taken from this source
- Apple says it began moving Mac computers from Intel processors to Apple silicon starting with certain models introduced in late 2020.
“Starting with certain models introduced in late 2020, Apple began the transition from Intel processors to Apple silicon in Mac computers.” (Opening paragraph)
- Apple says a Mac Pro introduced in 2023 or later is an Apple silicon Mac, so a Mac Pro from 2019 is not an Apple silicon model.
“Mac Studio introduced in 2022 or later Mac Pro introduced in 2023” (Mac models list)
