- What it is
- The W3C guide to choosing language tags, which are the codes such as en-GB or ar-EG that name a language and, optionally, a script and region. It explains how each subtag narrows the language to a variety and shows how the tags are built from the IANA registry.
- How much weight it carries
- Written by the W3C Internationalization group and built on the BCP 47 standard. The page is undated, so the year given is the year we read it. It explains conventions and does not define every region.
