- What it is
- A classic twin study of 4,488 women from the St Thomas' UK Adult Twin Registry that compared identical and non-identical twin pairs to estimate how much carpal tunnel syndrome varies with genes.
- How much weight it carries
- Peer-reviewed and well known in the field. Women only, from one UK registry, and the diagnosis came from a questionnaire and a hand pain diagram, not nerve tests. Heritability describes variation within this population, not the share of any one person's risk.
Facts taken from this source
- A twin study of women estimated the heritability of carpal tunnel syndrome at 0.46.
“Modeling produced a heritability estimate of 0.46 (95% CI 0.34-0.58)” (Abstract, Results)
