Learn how Gboard gets better
Google, Google Gboard Help, 2026
Read the originalRead on October 17, 2026
- What it is
- Google's Gboard help page on its two learning methods. Federated learning sends model updates, not your text. Conventional learning is opt-in and sends short snippets of speech to Google, which Google keeps for up to 18 months.
- How much weight it carries
- Official Google help page, read on 2026-10-17 from an archived copy because the live page returned a bot check to our fetcher. It describes the learning options, but does not describe the on-device recognizer itself, so do not read it as a statement about every voice typing path.
Facts taken from this source
- Google says that donating audio snippets to Gboard is voluntary, and that you may be asked to share them when you use dictation.
