Read the originalRead on October 17, 2026
- What it is
- Google's developer guide to the permission warnings that Chrome shows when a user installs or updates an extension, including how the activeTab permission avoids a warning.
- How much weight it carries
- Official Chrome developer documentation, last modified in February 2024. It describes how Chrome shows warnings, not how any particular extension uses its permissions.
Facts taken from this source
- Chrome's developer guide says the activeTab permission does not display a permission warning, because it grants only temporary access to the site the user is on.
“This permission does not display a permission warning. It grants temporary host permission to the site the user is on.” (Use the "activeTab" permission)
