webkitSpeechRecognition disabled and no way of detection (issue #2802, brave/brave-browser)
bsclifton, GitHub, Brave browser issue tracker, 2019
Read the originalRead on October 17, 2026
- What it is
- A bug report, opened in January 2019, from a developer whose app used the Web Speech API. The developer says Brave disables the API from returning results, so the app cannot tell which speech service to use.
- How much weight it carries
- A single developer's report in a public issue tracker, marked not scheduled. It is old and describes one browser version, so it shows a pattern to test for, not how Brave behaves today. Test the current Brave release yourself before relying on it.
Facts taken from this source
- A developer's January 2019 issue in Brave's GitHub tracker says the Web Speech API is disabled in Brave from returning results, so an app cannot tell which speech service to use.
“However, it is disabled in Brave from returning data results, and we have no way of telling which speech service to use.” (Issue body)
