- What it is
- A December 2025 benchmark that compares XLS-R, W2v-BERT, Whisper and MMS on African-language speech, with training data from one hour to 400 hours. Its dataset table lists the public corpora used for each language, including the NCHLT corpus for Zulu, Xhosa and Afrikaans.
- How much weight it carries
- A recent preprint that reports its own experiments and data sources. Its results cover the languages it tested, and we did not find Zulu or Xhosa results in the sections we read, so use it for the data sources rather than for accuracy figures.
Facts taken from this source
- A 2025 benchmark of speech models for African languages lists the NCHLT corpus as a source of read speech in Zulu, Xhosa and Afrikaans.
