Introduction - Wayland (The Wayland Book), freedesktop.org, Wayland project, n.d., Chapter 1, section The compositing manager as the display server.
Open the original- What it measures
- The Wayland Book describes how the X server and compositor split apart over time, and then introduces Wayland as the replacement that combines them.
- What it does not show
- This describes the protocol's design. Wayland itself does not say which compositor a given desktop uses, and it leaves rendering to the clients.
