The average online typing speed is about 2.3 times the mean handwriting copying speed of university students in one 2014 study.

Checked against its source on October 16, 2026

What it measures: Both figures measure copying a given text, but they come from different tasks and different people.
How it is calculated: 51.56 / 22.85 = 2.26, rounded to 2.3
What it does not show: No single study has measured the same adults typing and writing by hand on the same text. Treat this as an estimate from two separate samples.
