Open the original- What it measures
- NIST quotes this wording from Executive Order 14110 of October 30, 2023, and uses it as the working definition for its profile.
- What it does not show
- A working definition in voluntary guidance, not a legal test. The order it comes from was revoked in January 2025. The definition does not say whether text produced from audio counts as synthetic content, so applying it to transcription takes interpretation.
