“Results showed that tactile characteristics performed better than linear switches in typing speed, accuracy, and subjective refresh feeling in pair comparison of blue and red switches”
Effect of Mechanical Keyboard Switch and Backlight Status on Typing Performance and User Experience, Jutao Li et al., Electronics (MDPI), 2024, Abstract.
Open the original (DOI 10.3390/electronics13214205)- What it measures
- Tactile switches give a bump when the key actuates. Linear switches press smoothly with no bump.
- What it does not show
- The difference was measured on pairs of switches in one lab task. It is not evidence that a mechanical keyboard makes a typist faster than a laptop or membrane keyboard.
