What it measures
An operation is an input action, such as a key press, a gesture or a correction, that the study counted per character of the final phrase.
What it does not show
The count is per character of the phrase, so it depends on how the study defined an operation. The same results section also reports a significant effect on the rate of backspaces, which is a separate count.
