Open the original- What it measures
- Decoding is reading a word by working out its sounds from its letters. The standard is the reading counterpart of the spelling skill in the kindergarten language standard.
- What it does not show
- Decoding is reading, not spelling. Children who can decode a word may still misspell it, so use this standard to choose words the class has sounded out, not to predict spelling scores.
