“saving 57% more motor actions than traditional predictive keyboards in offline simulation”
Using Large Language Models to Accelerate Communication for Users with Severe Motor Impairments, Shanqing Cai et al., Nature Communications, 2024, Abstract.
Open the original (DOI 10.1038/s41467-024-53873-3)- What it measures
- SpeakFaster lets the user type in a highly abbreviated form and uses language models to predict the full phrase. The comparison was run offline in a simulation, not with people typing in real time.
- What it does not show
- A simulation counts motor actions, such as taps and gaze selections. It does not measure seconds, and it is not a typing speed. The study's real-time results were smaller, as the next fact shows.
